Introduction
The rich content of protein, omega-3 fatty acids and essential nutrients make fish a healthy commodity. But not all fish are created with the same benefits for their health. High contamination of mercury, pollutants or unsustainable fishing practices are part and parcel of some species. It is critical to know the fish you eat to take appropriate decisions for one’s health and the nature.

Here are five fish to avoid and 3 fish that are healthy options:

Fish To Avoid.
1. Shark: As sharks live for a long time and are at the top of most food chains, their meat contains large amounts of mercury that may be harmful to pregnant women and children.
2. Swordfish: Like shark, swordfish has a high amount of mercury in it and, hence, should be consumed not more than one time.
3. King Mackerel: Mercury is very high in this fish hence it should be avoided or taken only in small amounts.
4. Tilefish: Tilefish in particular, especially those caught in the Gulf of Mexico, may contain significant levels of mercury and should therefore be avoided.
5. Orange Roughy: This deep-sea fish has been overharvested with regard to sustainability, which may also have mercury at elevated rates.

With regard to seafood consumption, it is also important to note that some types of fish contain more mercury or other impurities. However, there are a few more fish you need to be wary of apart from swordfish, shark, king mackerel, orange roughy and tilefish that have talked about above Here are five more fish to be mindful of:

Fish To Avoid:

1. Marlin: Marlin, especially the bigger types such asblue and black marlin, has high traces of mercury. It is advised that the use should be controlled, especially in pregnant women and toddlers.

2. Bigeye Tuna: The level of mercury in bigeye tuna is greater than that in other tuna species. Though moderate consumption is usually safe, it is recommended to keep the intake in check especially for susceptible individuals.

3. Chilean Sea Bass: Patagonian toothfish, or Chilean sea bass as it is also known, is widely used in many restaurants. Nevertheless, it is overfished and typically caught using undesirable practices. A better option would be to select more sustainable alternatives.

4. Atlantic Halibut: Atlantic halibut is a large flatfish which can contain an unusually high amount of mercury due to its long life span.

Healthy Fish Option.
1. Salmon: Salmon is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, it supports the health of your heart and brain.
2. Sardines: Omega-3s, calcium and vitamin D in abundance, these tiny fish are perfect for healthy bones.

3. Arctic Char: As opposed to salmon, arctic char is a fatty fish with delicate flavor offering omega-3s and essential elements.

Conclusion
Those who love fish should pay more attention to their health and should not eat unhealthy fish. The unhealthy fish may be polluted with toxic substances like mercury and PCBs that are harmful to human health. Fish lovers can find a multitude of fabulous choices that are healthier options and provide numerous nutritional advantages. Among the best options are salmon, sardines, mackerel, trout, and anchovies. These fish do not only contain large amounts of omega 3 fatty acids but they also have low mercury levels and have other vital nutrients such as protein vitamins. In this way, fish lovers can satisfy their desires about food without compromising health also.
